Rózsa Konzert für Viola und Orchester Op. 37 Ausgabe für Viola und Klavier

Miklós Rózsas Viola Concerto op. 37 is the composers last orchestral work. It concludes a series of concertos in which Rózsa devoted one piece each to an instrument that he was particularly fond of (violoncello, piano, violin and the Sinfonia concertante for violin and violoncello) or to a specific performer. The Viola Concerto is dedicated to the then young soloist Pinchas Zukerman, who gave the first performance of the piece in May 1984 in Pittsburgh under the direction of André Previn. A surprising touch is the concertos four-movement form. In the works dark instrumental colors, the composer underlines his great admiration for his acclaimed fellow Hungarian Béla Bartók more intensely than ever before.
